How do I use a chillum?

Using them are super simple. However, let us go over some easy tips so you can get the most out of your smoking experience! Let us break it down into three easy-to-follow steps. Fill. Angle It. Light It up. 

When you are filling your chillum it is important to not overfill or pack it. Because they don’t have the added feature of a carb to let air in they don’t get as much airflow as the normal hand pipe. When you overpack a chillum bowl you get rid of all of the space that air would normally fill up. Making it almost impossible to pull from. You can still load big bowls, just don’t pack it down too tightly!

Before you light your pipe you are going to want to consider the angle of your bowl! Is your bowl pointed towards the sky, straight forward, or facing down? The main reason you want to consider the angle of your bowl is that you don’t want any of your freshly packed bowls to fall out! Trust us. When this happens it rarely happens over a place where you can salvage your lost material. A good rule of thumb is to keep your chillum at a 45-degree angle! This will help you avoid that terrible situation. 

Lastly, you light it up! This is the most straightforward part of using a chillum. However, we still have a couple of valuable tips for you before you do it. When you are lighting make sure to be aware of where your fire is in the space around you. Is your hair near the flame? Are you about to burn your eyebrows off? Our point is to always be careful when using your piece! 

The second bit of advice we have when administering the flame to your chillum is to corner it! Cornering is the nicest thing you can do for the other people joining in on your session. To properly corner, you light your lighter away from the bowl and slowly bring the edge of the flame to a corner of your bowl while inhaling. If done correctly everyone in your session should get some fresh greens! Chillums can be difficult to do this with as they have smaller bowls than your average hand pipe.

When using dugout, much like a chillum there are a few tips that will make your experience run a whole lot smoother. They are, tightly pack your storage chamber, keep your one-hitter clean, and always be sure to clear your one-hitter right after you rip it. 

When you tightly pack the storage chamber on your one-hitter you prevent the material inside from falling out from the accident. When you are filling up your dugout take your one-hitter and push the material down nice and tight. 

Keeping your one-hitter clean is the biggest step you can take to keep your smoke sessions running smoothly. Because one-hitters don’t use any water to filter your smoke they tend to get gunky fairly quickly. This is also due to the concentrated smoke going through the narrow tube of the one-hitter. When the gunk builds up enough you won’t be able to pull any air through the device. Preventing you from getting the experience you want!

The best way to prevent your smoking sessions from being stopped in their tracks while using a dugout is to immediately clear out your one-hitter after use. If you tap it on your lighter while it is still hot the burned material should fall out with no problem. If you wait much longer than that you run the risk of clogging your one-hitter.

You can also clean your piece with household items. Salt and isopropyl alcohol is the best household combination to clean the gunk off of all of your glass pieces. You can grab a small plastic bag, but in the Salt and isopropyl alcohol and then put in your dirty piece. Let it soak. Then shake it! After you pull your piece out rinse with hot water to push off any stubborn gunk bits. Repeat this process until you have yourself a freshly clean piece!
