What is Kief

Smoking kief is a great way to enjoy cannabis, it is a lot stronger than your standard cannabis flower. Kief has been around for thousands and thousands of years, with it being especially popular in the middle east region. You might have heard of hash being popular in the middle east, and kief is what hash is made from. So, if you’ve heard of hash then you have already come across kief! Kief is a guaranteed way to get a stronger high than typical marijuana without any equipment or synthetic chemicals.

What is Kief?

Kief is a byproduct of the cannabis flower, specifically, kief comes from cannabis trichomes. So now you are probably wondering what cannabis trichomes are… Trichomes are part of the flower that hold the cannabinoids and terpenes. To keep it simple, we'll just say that the trichomes are a part of the plant that contains the THC, the part that gets you high. We could go on and on explaining the cannabis plant, but we won't bore you with the nitty-gritty, just know that kief is basically the collection of loose cannabis trichomes. For this reason, kief is commonly referred to as cannabis crystals and even dust.

What Are the Benefits of Kief?

The main advantage of kief compared to other strands of marijuana is its potency. Kief will give you a much stronger high than you are used to if you haven't tried it before. It's particularly good to try if you have a high tolerance or are wanting a bit of a thrill. The other benefit of hash would be that it is easy to acquire compared to other concentrates that offer high potency. Kief is great because it is both easy to obtain and stronger than your typical bud.

How to Collect Kief

Although collecting kief isn't too difficult to collect, it isn't intuitive enough to require no instructions. Here is exactly how to collect kief!

Three-Chamber Grinder

The simplest and most effective way to collect kief is with a weed grinder that is designed to do so. Using a three-chamber grinder will make your life easy by naturally collecting kief as you grind your herb. After grinding your herb you will have a full layer of kief in the bottom layer of the chamber, simple as that.

Screen Method

The screening method can be a good idea if you are trying to acquire a large amount of kief at once. You can get a silkscreen at a nearby art store or at a local head shop. To collect kief using a screen, first place your herb over top of it and then use a credit card to grind your weed and push the kief through the screen.

How to Use Kief

There is an abundance of ways to use kief, here is a list of the best ways to consume kief to for the best high.

Smoking Kief by Itself

You can absolutely smoke kief by itself! In fact, smoking kief by itself will give you a stronger high than other consumption methods. Once you have your collected kief just place it in your bowl and light up. You can also roll it into a blunt and enjoy it like snoop dog if you prefer. Smoking kief by itself is the best way to consume kief because it isn't diluted by anything, this is the only way to get the full experience.

Sprinkling Kief on Marijuana Flower

The most common way to enjoy kief is by sprinkling it on top of your regular bud. To do this just simply take a pinch of it and sprinkle it on top of your pipe, joint, or whatever you're smoking with. This is a great way to add some potency to your herb without overdoing it.

Roll Kief into Joints or Blunts

As we just mentioned, you can roll kief into a joint or blunt if your heart desires. Just keep in mind that it will be a much more potent joint than you are used to. Also, consider that kief burns continuously until it is gone, it also burns very quickly. That means you will be smoking quicker than normal and if you slow down too much you might end up wasting your kief. The speed you need to smoke your joint at also adds to the fact that you will experience a higher high

Add kief into your Morning Coffee or Tea

Want to try kief but don't want to smoke it? If that's the case, you can rest assured knowing that many people enjoy kief in their morning coffee or tea. In order to make kief coffee (or tea) though, you will need to decarb your kief before putting it in your drink (the heat from your drink will not be enough to decarb it). You can do this by putting your kief in the oven at 230° for about 45 minutes. After coming out of the oven the kief will be activated and ready to be put in your drink. The effect of kief in your coffee or tea will be similar to an edible and will get you pretty high.

Blend Kief into Butter

If you want to consume kief in your coffee or tea but don't like the way it makes your drink taste you may want to consider blending it into butter or milk. To do this you need to put the kief inside of your butter and let it sit for a long time at a lower temperature. Letting it sit in the butter at a low temperature will decarb and activate the kief. This method will taste better than just decarbing your kief in the oven.

Make Hash

If plane old kief isn't strong enough for you somehow, then you should make hash! You can turn your kief into hash by rolling your kief into a dense solid ball. Although you can do this with your hands if needed, it's better if you have a pollen press and can use low heat to make sure you get your kief extremely packed in. Hash is simply compressed kief- it is kief that has been heated and smushed together.

Conclusion

Kief can be a great way to add potency to your bud and spice things up. Kief can even be used in your morning coffee or infused into your butter. Kief is relatively easy to collect, especially compared to other concentrates. Given that kief has everything to offer and virtually nothing to be lost from it, it's no wonder it has been around and remained popular for so many years.
