Everything You Need To Know: Ice Catchers

Ice catcher, a simple yet truly elegant way to help solve an age-old question. How do you make inhaling and exhaling smoke a more palpable experience? Stoners throughout the ages have racked their brains with this simple, yet very important question. Anytime that you pull a whole community to solve any given problem, the results you will achieve are bound to surprise you! Bongs with ice catchers in them are truly a luxury. Ok. Now that you know our stance on ice catchers, let’s dive into the ins and outs of these beautiful convenience bringers!

What Is an Ice Catcher?

The ice catcher is the part of your bong that allows you to place ice inside of your piece. Ice catchers are usually placed inside the neck of your bong. They can be made in a variety of different ways, but every variation is doing the same thing by simply pinching the glass at the bottom of the neck. This pinched area is where your ice cubes are going to start to stack up when you fill it. What this marvelous stack of ice is going to do for you is cool down your smoke ever so slightly as it heads towards your lungs. Any way that you can cool down your rips as you take them is going to make your rips smoother. Which will result in a better session overall!

We aren’t going to go as far as to say that ice catchers are absolutely essential. However, we will say that the smoothness that they bring to your sessions is definitely worth a try. Bongs with ice catchers are one of the greatest things to come out of the age of stoner innovation. If you want to take it a step further than that, bongs with ice catchers and percolators are the best way to get the smoothest hit you can. So, we now know what an ice catcher is, but how do they work really? How are they created? Stick around and you might just learn a thing or two.

How does an ice catcher work?

Crafting the perfect ice catcher requires a skilled glassblower. Working with the intensity of heat that comes with the glass-blowing trade keeps a lot of people away from the profession, and that is just in general. When it comes to making bongs with ice catchers, percolators, and all of the other meticulously crafted parts of a bong, it takes a true artist.

The process of creating the ice catch within the neck of the bong specifically is relatively simple, compared to the other more attention-requiring sections of the bong. All you need to do is take a pair of glass blowing pliers, and pinch the neck of your bong while it is still hot and malleable. When creating the pinch, you want the two sides of the glass to almost touch each other, but stop just short. Once cooled, this is where the ice shall rest!

Benefits of Ice Catchers

As you can guess, the benefits of the ice catchers are kind of amazing. Ice catchers in your bong are going to provide you with a whole other level of smooth rips! However, the benefits don’t stop there. The main macro benefit of ice catchers, however, is healthier sessions overall. Over time if you take more and more cool hits from a bong (that also is already taking some of the tar out of your smoke with water) the reduced heat of the smoke that goes into your lungs will overall just be better for you.

If the health benefits of ice catchers aren’t enough to convince you of their greatness, consider the aesthetic. A bong filled to the brim with ice is a lot more visually appealing than its warmer counterpart. Probably because you know that when you take a hit from one of those beautiful cool bongs, it is going to be a good one. So you may be asking yourself. How do I use one of these crazy contraptions? Keep reading to find out.

How Do You Use an Ice Catcher?

Ice catchers are rather straightforward contraptions to use. However, if it seems intimidating at all follow this three step guide. First, you assess how tall and wide your bong is. This is going to determine what you will need to do for the next step. Do you have a thin mouthpiece? Do you have a short neck? The next step is choosing your ice. Based off of the intel you grabbed in step one, you will need to make a decision of what type of ice you are going to use. Or if you need to reshape ice that you already have to fit inside of your bong. Once you have done this, that bring us to the last, and most important step. Fill it up. Simple, but important. You now take your shaped ice and fill up the neck of your bong. And there you have it, a bong ready to provide cool and smooth hits. If you have any questions about this process, feel free to reach out to us. We love to hear from you, and wish to provide you with the best experience possible.

Different Types of Ice Catchers

If you have been browsing our bongs for a while now you may have noticed that there are multiple different types of ice catchers available. Not all smoking accessories will have an ice-catcher. Most bongs do have them, but hand pipes and bubblers are two examples of smoking accessories that do not have Lets break them down for you, so you can make the best decision based on your research that you can. The main three different types of ice catches we have noticed here at Fat Buddha Glass, are the bullet-pinch ice catcher, the three-pinch ice catcher, and the natural ice catcher. We will go over exactly what you need to know about all three of them. By the end of this article, you will be able to call yourself an expert on all things ice-catchers. Let’s dive in.

   1.Bullet-pinch ice catcher

These are coming in with a bang! First up, we have the bullet-pinch ice catcher. This ice catcher is probably the most sophisticated looking of the different varieties. What makes a bullet-pinch ice catcher is how the glass closes up to catch the ice. With the bullet-pinch, all sides of the glass are compressed in, leaving a small circle between the glass for the smoke to get through. This looks cool, and helps your rips feel cool

   2.Three-pinch ice catcher

The three-pinch ice catcher is the most common ice catcher there is. Most of our bongs utilize the three-pinch method. You can identify the three-pinch ice catcher by how the way the glass looks like it was almost pinched inwards with fingers. This design is our favorite when it comes to ice catchers, because it doesn’t restrict any amount of smoke flow during your rips!

   3.Natural-ice catcher

The last style of ice catcher that we have noticed around town is one we are going to call the natural-ice catcher. This ice-catcher is one that is made from the shape of the neck of the bong. One that is not intentional, but by every functional measure, works as an ice catcher. They are minimalistic, and ready to help you towards your smoother sessions.

All in all, ice catchers provide a level of smoothness that would otherwise be impossible! They are one of the greatest innovations in the world of everything 420 that we have seen for a long time. If you haven’t tried one, try one. Then be sure to let us know how it goes. We at Fat Buddha Glass, love to hear about your experiences. But for now, go forth and enjoy the benefits of the ice catcher.
